2005 Chevrolet Corvette Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster on 2005 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: To start replacing the vacuum Brake Booster disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal. Pull the washer solvent container out of its place by unscrewing the nuts at the left wheelhouse end of the unit. This action will disconnect both the electrical cords and washer hose. Afterwards seal the pump outlet with a plug. Detach the tail connector from the brake fluid sensor but keep the master cylinder connected to the Brake Booster when you remove its holding nuts and position it aside. Begin by taking off the booster check valve connection from the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose and removing the lower trim panel of the instrument panel. Uninstall the Brake Pedal components including the retainer, washer, pin, and pushrod. Also detach the screw from the telescoping column motor bracket if present and position the motor on the right of the steering column. Pull out the Brake Booster studs one by one with a side-to-side motion after you remove their mounting nuts and washers. Check if the booster seal needs replacement because of any damage found on the sealing surfaces. Position the Brake Booster at the dash front and install its mounting studs through bra and booster before screwing them tightly to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.) torque. Attach and tighten the Brake Booster pushrod along with Brake Pedal parts including the pin, washer, and retainer ensuring the retainer locks firmly when rotated. Set the telescoping column motor assembly on the steering column and fasten the screw to its motor bracket while tightening it to 7 nm. Place back the instrument panel lower trim and attach the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose to the check valve. Install the master cylinder onto the Brake Booster by tightening its mounting nuts to 29 nm (21 ft. Lbs.). Secure the electrical connector to the brake fluid measure device following assembly of the washer solvent can and reattaching the washer hose. After this, place the container back into the wheelhouse area and tighten its retaining nuts to 7.5 nm (66 inch lbs). Reattach the battery negative wiring and enter the transmitter settings.
