2004 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear parking brake cable on 2004 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The first step to change the rear park brake cable begins with raising the vehicle and securing it for adequate support. First apply pressure release on the park brake cable located at the equalizer before disconnecting both the front cable end from the defective rear cable. The right rear cable requires cable disconnection from the clip while complete removal of the equalizer nut off its equalizer stud applies to the left rear cable. The retainer holding the cable to the support bracket can be detached using Parking Brake Cable Release Tool (J 37043). You should first disconnect the actuator lever from the park brake cable and remove its retaining pin from the support bracket before extracting the cable. The new park brake cable requires positioning into the support bracket before installing the cable retaining pin. Refasten the park brake cable to the actuator lever and retrace the retainer installation on the support bracket before uniting the rear cable with the front cable. The right rear cable should attach to the clip and the left rear cable requires installation of the equalizer stud onto its corresponding equalizer nut that belongs to the equalizer assembly. To complete the task adjust the park brake then lower the vehicle.
