2004 Chevrolet Impala Power Steering Hose Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace a Power Steering Hose on a 3.8L Engine for Return Hose on 2004 Chevrolet Impala?
A: A proper replacement of the power steering return hose on a 3.8l engine starts with vehicle lift followed by tire removal. The power steering return hose needs detachment both from the power steering gear and from all clips located on the power steering gear. Take the return hose away from the Power Steering Pump and also detach it from each hose retainer located on the cradle. Once disconnected from return hose electrical harnesses and clips the mechanic should remove the hose from the vehicle body. First place the return hose back inside the vehicle and reattach clips and electrical harnesses to it before locking them into position at the cradle hose retainers. Begin by attaching the return hose to the Power Steering Pump before mounting it onto the clips situated on the power steering gear. Follow the installation procedure by using torque to fasten the return hose fitting to the power steering gear to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). The process concludes with tire and wheel assembly reinstallation then vehicle lowering becomes necessary followed by power steering fluid reservoir filling up and bleeding the power steering system and leak inspection steps.
