2004 Chevrolet Impala Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Power Steering Hose on 2004 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Start the power steering cooler pipe/hose replacement by taking out the engine mount struts from the engine before lifting and securing the vehicle. Start by removing the tire along with wheel assembly after you position a drain pan underneath the vehicle. Proceed with caution because trying to disconnect the Steering Column or intermediate shaft when the sir coil assembly remains at improper alignment may cause damage. Keep the Steering Column in lock position and front wheels straight before all connections. The power steering gear stub shaft connection of the intermediate Steering Shaft must be disconnected before using a utility stand to support the frame structure. Use caution when removing the frame bolts from the rear of the frame because lowering it too steeply may lead to engine components damage close to the cowl. Lower the rear frame with the utility stand for access before removing the power steering return hose running between the pump and cooler pipe and continuing with the power steering return line from the power steering gear while removing its clamp. Remove retaining clips on the power steering cooler pipe after which you can extract the pipe from the vehicle. The installation needs the pipeline to be placed into position with retaining clips used for securing it. Newly attach the power steering return line to both the power steering gear and its clamp before you join the power steering return hose from the pump with the cooler pipe. Raising the frame by using the utility stand enables the installation of new frame bolts near the back of the vehicle. Proceed by reinstalling tire and wheel assembly and also reconnect the intermediate Steering Shaft to the power steering gear stub shaft while discarding the drain pan. The technician should lower the vehicle down before installing the engine mount struts and filling the power steering fluid reservoir and bleeding the power steering system while also inspecting for any fluid leaks.
