2005 Chevrolet Impala Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Power Steering Hose on 2005 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Starting the power steering cooler pipe/hose replacement requires first removing the engine mount struts from the engine followed by raising and supporting the vehicle. Start by taking off the tire assembly with the wheel and position a drain pan beneath the vehicle. Every step of removing the Steering Column and intermediate shaft requires straight wheels and a locked Steering Column position because any improper alignment may damage the sir coil assembly. The power steering gear stub shaft must have its intermediate Steering Shaft removed before using a utility stand to support the frame structure. The frame bolts should be removed from the rear section of the frame but you must avoid lowering it too much to protect adjacent engine parts. You should use a utility stand to lower the rear of the frame before proceeding to disconnect the power steering return hose which runs between the Power Steering Pump and power steering cooler pipe and then disconnect the power steering return line from the power steering gear with its clamp. First remove the power steering cooler pipe retaining clips before taking out the power steering cooler pipe from the vehicle. The new power steering cooler pipe needs installation inside the vehicle where retaining clips should hold it into position. Start by connecting the power steering return line to its clamp on the power steering gear and proceed with attaching the power steering return hose from the pump to the cooler pipe. Rise the frame with the utility stand while putting new frame bolts into position at the rear section of the frame. Begin by reconnecting the intermediate Steering Shaft to meet the power steering gear stub shaft and afterward reinstall the tire along with wheel assembly and eliminate the drain pan. The last steps involve installing the engine mount struts and draining power steering fluid reservoir before bleeding the system before conducting a leak inspection.
