2004 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Brake Proportioning Valve on 2004 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Start replacing the proportioning valve only when you have addressed brake fluid safety guidelines and taken measures to protect painted and electrical parts from brake fluid. Place tape on brake pipes before you remove them to keep them in the right spots for installation. Occupy each brake pipe from the proportioning valve before using bleeder valve caps to avoid leaking and fluid contamination. Securely take away all 4 brake pipes from the proportioning valve by applying protective caps. Take out the proportioning valve assembly from the vehicle by removing the 2 mounting nuts that hold the bracket. Place the proportioning valve assembly in position and attach it with the 2 bracket nuts which need to be tightened to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs). Linking the brake pipes to the brake pressure modulator valve properly prevents wheel lockup which you can diagnose with a Scan Tool or through an Antilock stop. untape the brake pipe markings and remove the plastic caps from all four brake pipes to attach them at the proportioning valve before tightening the connections to 20 Nm. To complete the work apply caps to both brake pipes and fasten them to the proportioning valve using 20 Nm torque. Then bleed the brake system.
