2004 Chevrolet SSR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake disc on 2004 Chevrolet SSR?
A: Before replacing the rear Brake Disc start by checking brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir. Drain fluid to reach the midway point when the level stands above both limits. Lift the vehicle to access the tire and wheel set then pull it away from the vehicle. Hold the Brake Caliper Piston in place using a large j12345 tool as a c-clamp across the housing while pressing it towards the back of the outboard Brake Pad until the brake caliper can be removed. Start by taking off the brake caliper mounting bracket and Brake Disc retaining clips when they are present at the back. You need to remove all rust and debris from the Brake Disc-brake axle connection to stop brake vibration and movement irregularities. When continuing to use the same disc mark it for perfect alignment during its return installation. You should clean the contact area between your Brake Disc and hub by using the wheel hub resurfacing kit product number j42450-a. When needed we should refinish the disc surface. Wipe park brake shoes with denatured alcohol then blow them dry using clean filtered air before applying high-temperature silicone brake lubricant to their contact area with the backing plate. Set the park Brake Shoe (J21177-A) back to the right position to place the disc as the mechanical marks should fit correctly. Turn the Brake Disc onto the axle flange while pushing it into place and then put back the rear brake caliper mounting bracket before reinstalling the tire and wheel unit. Place the vehicle on the ground and put brake fluid back if the tank needs it. Moving the vehicle before achieving a strong brake feeling puts your safety at risk. Press down on the brake pedal gently yet strongly to activate brake pads and to apply a smoothing surface to new or refurbished discs.
