How to replace the lower control arm on 2004 Chevrolet SSR?

To remove the lower Control Arm to replace it, one must first align and bear the car, follow the removal of the tire and wheel. Then, take off the bearing dust cap and press out the upper Control Arm Ball Joint using the Ball Joint separator (J24010) and a Ball Joint separator tool. Take out the stabilizer shaft link lower retaining nut and disengage the stabilizer shaft link and washer from the lower Control Arm. Remove the shock module yoke lower mounting nut and remove the shock module yoke from the lower Control Arm using steering linkage and tie rod puller (J 24319-B). Remove the lower Control Arm to lower Control Arm Bracket mounting nuts with an indication of direction of bolts during installation and lower Control Arm to lower Control Arm Bracket mounting bolts. Take out the lower Ball Joint retaining nut and disconnect the lower Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle using the Ball Joint remover (J 43631). Pivot the lower arm control outwardly and lower to take it off from the lower Control Arm Bracket. Finally, remove the lower Control Arm from the Steering Knuckle. For installation, you should start from the Steering Knuckle by installing lower Control Arm and pivot it outside and upward, to attach it to the lower Control Arm Bracket. Mount the lower Control Arm to the lower Control Arm Bracket bolts using making sure not to tighten the bolt while the lower Control Arm is at an angle with the bracket to ensure correct alignment of the bushings. Install the lower Control Arm to lower Control Arm Bracket mounting nuts and tighten them to 110 nm (81 ft. Lbs.). Mount the shock module yoke with the lower mounting nut. Mount the lower stabilizer shaft link and washer to the lower Control Arm and the stabilizer shaft link retaining nut, and tighten the latter to 145 nm (107 ft. Lbs.). Lastly you need to install the outer tie rod to the Steering Knuckle, tighten the retaining nut of the outer tie rod retaining nut to 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.), reinstall the tire and wheel, lower the vehicle, and check the front wheel alignment.
