2004 GMC Envoy Brake Line Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the brake line on 2004 GMC Envoy?
A: The brake pipe replacement process begins with a tool collection: brake pipe flaring kit (J 45405). Brake pipe flaring kit (J 45405). The first step involves lifting the vehicle before using a back up wrench to extract the brake pipe from the junction block and continuing to remove the right brake pipe from the axle housing retainer. Unlock the main and secondary locking tabs on the plastic brake pipe retainer by using a flat-bladed screwdriver before removing the rear axle brake pipe retaining bracket. Remove the brake pipe from the Wheel Cylinder before determining whether repairs or new components need replacement. Sectioned brake pipes need replacement with identical pipes of the same outside diameter while measuring the replacement section with flare length included for accurate cutting. Earth the brake pipe using the built-in pipe cutter from brake pipe flaring kit j 45405 until it reaches the exact length that was measured. Use the coating stripping tool from the kit to remove nylon protection from the surface that needs flaring before you chamfer the pipe with the de-burring tool also found in the kit. You must select the proper brake pipe and tube nut sizes. First install the tube nuts before cleaning the brake pipe along with the kit from contaminates then prepare the pipe for flaring by first loosening the die clamping screw and choosing the correct die set. Place the processed tubing inside the die cage while keeping the clamping screw tightened and creating the flare using the forming mandrel. Check the brake pipe flare's shape and diameter after fabrication then transform the pipe using an appropriate brake pipe bending tool if needed. All moving brake pipe components require a 19 mm (3/4 inch) clear space during installation. Tighten the brake pipe fittings to the specified torque followed by installation of the retaining bolt to the bracket and the plastic brake pipe retainer before bleeding the hydraulic brake system and checking for leaks before lowering the vehicle.
