2005 Buick LaCrosse Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace a Power Steering Hose on a 3.6L (LY7) Engine on 2005 Buick LaCrosse?
A: The first step to replace the power steering pressure pipe/hose on a 3.6l (LY7) begins with removing the fuel injector sight shield as well as the Engine Mount struts and brackets. One Engine Mount strut bolt and nut should be joined to the Engine Mount strut bracket for front engine attachment. Cut the electrical harness clip from the uhjb and coolant housing in addition to the ecm connector. After removing the coolant recovery reservoir you must disconnect the Power Steering Reservoir along with its bracket by detaching the screw connecting the power steering pump reservoir to the bracket. The engine support fixture hook requires installation onto the Power Steering Reservoir bracket for attachment to the Cylinder Head where the bracket should be secured using specified torques of 9 nm (80 inch lbs.) for the m6 bolt and 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) for the m8 bolt. First install the engine support fixture and elevate the vehicle while providing support. Then remove the right-hand tire along with wheel assembly and both the rh engine splash shield and steering gear heat shield. The procedure to access the engine support fixture tool requires you to remove first both the rh Engine Mount lower nuts along with the lh transmission mount lower nuts followed by lowering the vehicle. As you raise the engine between the motor cradle and the engine support fixture you should free the rh Engine Mount studs while keeping the cv joint of the wheel drive shaft away from touching the wheel structure interior. Detach the rh Engine Mount/bracket assembly from the vehicle then direct the flow into a drain pan while you remove the power steering pressure hose from both the gear and the pump by disconnecting it from all clips running along the rear rh cradle and side. Detach the power steering pressure hose from the entire vehicle. Install new quick connector fittings at the power steering pump by tightening them to 40 nm then route the power steering pressure hose to the vehicle and hand-tighten it at the steering gear. First tighten all pressure hose fittings to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.), then replace the steering gear heat shield, reinstall both rh Engine Mount and its lower nuts and lh transmission mount lower nuts. The maintenance process includes reinstalling the rh engine splash shield with tire and wheel assembly and draining the pan material. First lower the vehicle and then take off first the engine support fixture followed by the Power Steering Reservoir bracket and engine support fixture hook. Next, fasten the Power Steering Reservoir screws onto the bracket until they achieve 6 nm (53 inch lbs.) torque and then reinstall the Power Steering Reservoir bracket at the Cylinder Head with proper torque specifications. The last step includes installing the coolant recovery reservoir alongside Engine Mount struts and fuel injector sight shield before filling power steering fluid and bleeding it while inspecting for any leakage.
