- Q: How to replace the Power Steering Hose (LY7) on 2006 Buick LaCrosse?A: Start the power steering pressure pipe/hose (LY7) replacement by draining the vehicle and removing as much power steering fluid from the remote power steering fluid reservoir. The first step involves installation of the engine support fixture before removing the right front tire along with the wheel assembly then the engine splash shield and steering gear heat shield. Remove the right side Engine Mount lower nuts along with the left side transmission mount lower nuts under the condition that the wheel drive shaft constant velocity joint must not touch the inner wheel structure. The power steering gear inlet pressure hose can pass underneath the left side mount location after using the engine support fixture to lift the engine upwards until the right side Engine Mount studs break free from the cradle. To begin the procedure disconnect the power steering pressure hose at both its pump and steering gear locations before removing the right side Engine Mount/bracket assembly and its pressure hose fitting from the steering gear. Detach the retaining clips on the power steering pressure hose before pulling out the pressure hose from the vehicle. Then discard both the hose along with the hose connector. All retaining ring seals need to be removed from the Power Steering Pump outlet port. To rebuild this component first install a new retaining ring seal in the Power Steering Pump outlet section followed by installing a new hose connector which should be tightened to 40 nm (30 lb ft). Position the pressure hose inside the vehicle while fitting its end for the steering gear and tighten it to 27 nm (20 lb ft). Secure the Power Steering Pump hose using the hose connector by inserting the pressure hose and then install the Engine Mount/bracket assembly on the right side. Feed the powertrain into its position and position both the right side Engine Mount and left side transmission mount correctly before connecting the pressure hose retaining clips. Follow by attaching the right side Engine Mount lower nuts and the left side transmission mount lower nuts users should place the steering gear heat shield and right front engine splash shield before finishing with the right front tire and wheel assembly installation. Eliminate the engine support fixture while cleaning rezervant fluid from the automobile before executing power steering system filling and bleeding procedures.
