2005 Buick LeSabre Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal and housing on 2005 Buick LeSabre?
A: Maintenance of the Crankshaft rear oil seal and housing requires professionals to first drain engine coolant from the cooling system followed by removal of the engine Oil Pan and Flywheel. Completely remove the Crankshaft rear oil seal housing bolts together with the housing unit being careful to preserve the od surface of the Crankshaft. Set the Crankshaft rear oil seal housing flat on a clean surface supported by wooden blocks after removing its gasket from both this housing and the cylinder block. Apply the driving tool along with a hammer to gently hit the housing's outer seals for safe removal before inspecting the seal area for foreign debris. The Crankshaft rear oil seal and seal installer must run without oil lubrication during installation and the sealing lip should remain untouched following protective sleeve removal. After removing the protective sleeve from your new rear oil seal assembly maintain awareness of the stamped installation direction on the component. Place the en 47623 (EN 47623) against the proper position and twist until the seal is completely set. Next, use the en 47623 (EN 47623) and j 8092 (J 8092) to push the seal inside the housing while maintaining continuous force. After cleaning the Crankshaft sealing surface check for burrs or sharp edges before removing them with crocus cloth. After installing a fresh housing gasket always set the housing onto the engine before finger tightening the bolts. Check for proper housing alignment before measuring step heights with a straight edge and feeler gauge on each side. Adjustments should be made as needed. Torque the Crankshaft rear oil seal housing bolts to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) before applying an additional 50 degrees of torque using j 45059 (J 45059). If the step height measurement shows deviations you must reinstall the housing before continuing. Finish by reattaching the engine Flywheel and Oil Pan before performing a complete engine coolant fill into the cooling system.
