- Q: What Tools Are Required for Replacing the CV Joint Inner and Seal on 2005 Buick LeSabre?A: Devices that are needed for the replacement of the wheel drive shaft inner joint and seal are: drive axle seal clamp pliers (J 35910), drive axle swage ring clamp (J 41048), snap ring pliers (J 8059). Start with the inspection of the transmission's sealing surface for corrosion and clean it with 320 grit or equivalent cloth using transmission fluid to remove the debris. Cut off the swage ring with a hand grinder and remove the large seal retaining clamp with the side cutters without damaging the inboard seal. Remove the combination of the inboard seal and the trilobal tripot bushing from the halfshaft and push it out of the way of the joint. You will remove the housing from the tripot joint spider and deem the trilobal tripot bushing, spacer rings, and inboard boot unnecessary. Clean the half shaft bar with a wire brush and the tripot balls, needle rollers, and housing using cleaning solvent and make sure that all old grease is taken off. Check the condition of the tripot joint spider assembly, the housing, and the needle rollers. For assembly, put the new small swage ring on to the joint seal and slide it on to the halfshaft bar. Use j 41048 to attach the halfshaft assembly while preventing pinch points to the inboard seal. Turn bolt alternately until snug, and put spacer ring j 8059 and move the tripot joint spider assembly towards it. Install the new trilobal tripot bushing onto the housing, place the larger new seal retaining clamp at the inboard seal of the halfshaft, slide in the housing over the tripot joint spider assembly. Ensure that the halfshaft inboard raises is shaped and placed properly, align halfshaft inboard seal, tripot holding, and big seal holding clamp when crimping the clamp with j 35910 tot dd nm (130 ft. Lbs.). Finally, check the gap dimension at the clamp ear and tighten if necessary to get a gap dimension of 2.60mm (0.102 inch).
