2005 Buick Rendezvous Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on 2005 Buick Rendezvous?
A: Start by checking brake master cylinder reservoir fluid before you replace rear brake pads. Remove excess fluid at the midpoint between maximum and minimum limits when fluid rests above this midpoint. Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it properly while removing the tire-wheel assembly by hand-tightening two wheel lug nuts to keep the rotor secured to the hub. A large c-clamp must be placed over the caliper housing top to push the caliper Piston into the bore until the caliper can slide off the rotor. Then remove the c-clamp from the assembly. Starting with upper caliper bolt removal you should rotate the caliper downwards to inspect pads (9,10) before taking them out of the caliper bracket alongside two retainer slides . You must inspect each disc brake mounting and caliper dust boot hardware as well as caliper bolts for any damage. Replace parts that show signs of corrosion or damage. Install the caliper Piston by applying pressure through a c-clamp and old Brake Pad or wooden block into the caliper bore while maintaining Piston and boot integrity. Slide both retainer pieces into position on the caliper bracket followed by pad installation at the caliper brake bracket where the sensor on outside pad should face trailing direction. The caliper should be positioned over the front pads before you lubricate both the bolt and boot and finally install and tighten the upper caliper bolt to 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). After removing the two wheel lug nuts you should install the tire as well as wheel assembly before lowering the vehicle. Repeatedly press the Brake Pedal from 2/3 to its maximum extension while letting it return to its initial position using controlled hand movements until you reach a solid brake feeling to correctly position brake caliper pistons and pads. After filling the brake master cylinder reservoir to its proper level you should finish by burnishing both pads and rotors.
