2005 Cadillac DeVille Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2005 Cadillac DeVille?
A: Begin the powertrain control module (PCM) replacement process by turning off the ignition to stop dangerous internal damage that occurs when working with connectors and disconnecting power. A diagnostic tool should be used for retrieving the remaining engine oil life and automatic transmission fluid storage information to prevent the default levels from automatically setting at 5000 km (3,000 mi) for oil change and 83000 km (50,000 mi) for fluid exchange. Detach the battery negative cable and the mass air flow/intake air temperature sensor electrical connector along with a loosening of the Throttle Body intake air duct clamp. Air filter element/pcm housing cover and maf/iat sensor and intake air duct must be removed so you can disconnect the pcm electrical connectors before taking out the pcm device. Evase the Air Filter element/pcm housing assembly as well as the maf/iat sensor inlet screen for any debris before checking for component damage. The pcm installation procedure begins with connector lock installation then moves on to pcm mounting after which the intake air duct and maf/iat sensor and Air Filter element with pcm housing cover should be aligned to the Throttle Body without triggering dtc. Secure the air element/pcm housing cover screws to 4 n.m while the intake air duct clamp needs a torque of 3 n.m. The pcm programming process starts after reattaching the maf/iat sensor connector and the battery negative cable.
