How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on 2005 Cadillac STS?

To replace the engine coolante temperature (ECT) sensor, you should shut off ignition, take out the fuel injector sight shield. Drain the coolant to below the ECT sensor and then disconnect the ECT sensor harness connector and take out the ECT sensor. To install the new ECT sensor coat the threads of the sensor with sealer GM P/N 1050805 or equivalent after which install the sensor and tighten it 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Connect the ECT sensor harness connector, replace fuel injector sight shield, and refill the coolant system. Take caution with the coolant sensor because the damage will undermine the operation of the fuel control system, and make sure that the replacement parts are the appropriate part number for the use. Parts that call for the application of thread locking compound, lubricants, corrosion inhibitors or sealants are determined in the service procedure and do not apply any coatings unless they are specified as they can impact final torque and fluid component function.
