2005 Cadillac STS Fuel Injector Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel injectors and fuel rail on 2005 Cadillac STS?
A: Starting the replacement of fuel injectors and Fuel Rail requires first reducing fuel system pressure. You should remove the Fuel Rail assembly while being careful to protect injector electrical connector terminals and spray tips then support the Fuel Rail to protect all components. Secure all fittings with caps and plug the holes to prevent external particles from entering. Remove the cross vehicle brace after which you should cleanse the Fuel Rail assembly through spraying gm x-30a engine cleaner or equivalent until you achieve desired clean status without allowing liquid solvent contact. You should disconnect the fuel feed hose/pipe from the Fuel Rail next to remove both the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) dirty air hose and evaporative emission (EVAP) quick connect fitting . 2 retainers located at the right side rear of the engine and front of the dash need to be opened in order to position the lines aside. Death of the left and right side Fuel Injector wiring harness connectors from fuel injectors enables separation between the sight shield bracket and Fuel Rail attaching studs that allow assembly removal. First remove the lower o-ring seals of each injector, discard them before taking off the retainers and fuel injectors from the Fuel Rail assembly. The new Fuel Injector o-ring seals must receive engine oil lubrication before installation but exposure to contamination must be avoided by plugging the Fuel Rail inlet and outlet ports. The fuel injectors must be installed onto the Fuel Rail with new retainer clips after a proper alignment with electrical connectors perpendicular to the crankshaft centerline. The technician will lubricate new o-ring seals for spray tips before installing them onto injector ends. Subsequently they will align fuel injectors alongside the Fuel Rail with Intake Manifold before pushing the rail assembly down for complete seat insertion. The first step is to install Fuel Rail attaching studs while using 10 n.m (89 lb in) torque until the Fuel Injector sight shield bracket nuts reach 10 n.m (89 lb in). Connect electrical Fuel Injector connectors from right and left sides to each Fuel Injector before attaching fuel feed and evap lines to retaining clips (1 and 2) at engine rear and dashboard front location. The evap quick connect fitting should be installed on the purge valve, the pcv dirty air hose and the fuel feed hose/pipe should lead to the Fuel Rail. After connecting the negative Battery Cable the technician must reinstall the cross vehicle brace then search for fuel leaks by sequentially turning on the ignition with engine off, waiting 2 seconds before turning it off for 10 seconds and finally repeating with off engine and checking for any fuel leakage. Complete the installation of the Fuel Injector sight shield as the last step.
