  • Q: How to replace the LH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2005 Cadillac STS?
    A: To replace your left Timing Chain, you must first remove the right Timing Chain. Position the crankshaft socket (J39946) and rotate the crankshaft until the primary timing gear alignment marks are side by side. After that, pull out the left Camshaft position actuator housing without disassembling the actuator solenoids. Care should be exercised when using the Camshaft holding tool (EN 46328) on the bank 2 (left) camshafts. Loosen and remove the left Timing Chain Tensioner bolts and tensioner. In order to prevent the Camshaft from turning, be sure to use an open-end wrench on the hex attached on the Camshaft pour the launch of the exhaust Camshaft position ocv of bank two (left). Slide the left exhaust Camshaft position actuator from the Camshaft and remove the Timing Chain from the actuator teeth. Repeat this process to the bank 2 (left) intake Camshaft position oil control valve and actuator. Extract the left Timing Chain from the engine, clean and inspect the Camshaft timing drive parts. For installation, the three black links on one of the timing chains are aligned to tied timing marks on the bank 2 exhaust actuator, bank 2 intake actuator, and intermediate sprocket. Put together the Timing Chain with the intermediate sprocket which is properly aligned. Mount the intake actuator so that its timing mark is perpendicular to the surface of the cylinder head deck, loosely bolt the oil control valve, and tighten the 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.) excluding rotation of the Camshaft. Let us repeat the same goes for the exhaust actuator and oil control valve. Finally, install the left Timing Chain Tensioner and the right Timing Chain and remove the Camshaft holding tool (EN 46328) and reinstall the left Camshaft position actuator house.
