  • Q: How to replace the LH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2006 Cadillac STS?
    A: To fix the left Timing Chain, the first step is to remove the right side Timing Chain. Turn the crankshaft using crankshaft socket (J 39946) to line up the primary timing gear with the alignment marks. Then take off the left Camshaft position actuator housing without disconnecting the actuator solenoids. Mount the Camshaft holding tool (EN 46328) on the bank 2 (left) camshafts. Lower and remove the left Timing Chain Tensioner bolts and tensioner. Use an open end wrench on the hex cast into the Camshaft to prevent rotation when removing the bank 2 (left) exhaust Camshaft position oil control valve. Slide the left exhaust Camshaft position actuator off the Camshaft and slide back the Timing Chain from the actuator teeth. Repeat same for the bank 2 (left) intake Camshaft position oil control valve and actuator. Take out the left Timing Chain from the engine and clean and inspect the Camshaft timing drive components. When fitting the new Timing Chain, the three black links should be on the same timing marks as the bank 2 exhaust actuator, bank 2 intake actuator, and intermediate sprocket. Replace the Timing Chain with the intermediate sprocket, making sure the sprocket lb timing mark labels the black link of the Timing Chain. Install the intake actuator with the timing mark pointing up on the cylinder head deck surface while loosely attaching the oil control valve then tightening it on to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs) while minimizing turning on the Camshaft. Do the same for the exhaust actuator and oil control valve. Finally, install the left Timing Chain, right Timing Chain Tensioner and remove the Camshaft holding tool (EN 46328) and reinstall left Camshaft position actuator housing.
