2005 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front parking brake cable on 2005 Cadillac XLR?
A: The procedure for front park brake cable replacement starts with returning the park brake pedal to its full position then elevating the vehicle. You need to pull down the front cable behind the vehicle after disconnecting the rear park brake cables from both left and right park brake actuators. You need to remove the front cable and then disconnect both left and right rear cables from the equalizer system before releasing the front cable from its bracket. Lower the vehicle first before you disconnect the passenger seat along with the lh lower closeout panel and the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Remove the passenger carpet from the console area followed by removing the Floor Pan grommet before removing the cable retainers that run along the routing channel. Rephrase the assembly attaching nuts on the park brake assembly while also removing the bolt and disconnecting the park brake switch and the release solenoid electrical connectors. To start cable removal, rotate and secure the park brake actuator cable tensioning spring before taking out the front park brake cable from the park brake pedal assembly. New cable installation requires placing the cable over the tunnel through the hvac case before installing it into the park brake pedal assembly and through the Floor Pan with grommet fixation to the Floor Pan. Secure the retainers that run along the cable path with a torque of 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) before putting the passenger carpet in its proper spot by the console. Use the raised vehicle position to install the front cable to the bracket along with connecting the left and right rear cables to the equalizertogether with the rear park brake cables installation at the left and right park brake actuators. Lower the vehicle while removing tension from the cable tensioning spring and position the park brake pedal assembly which needs retaining nuts and bolt tightening to torques of 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). The relocation process requires connection of park brake release solenoid and switch electrical wires before installing the ipc and lh lower closeout panel and passenger seat. Releasing and reapplying the park brake pedal two to three times completes system check of the park brake function.
