2005 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2005 Cadillac XLR?
A: The replacement process of ABS Control Module must start with setting the ignition switch to off position before disconnecting the negative Battery Cable to safeguard the ABS Control Module/ebtcm system from damage. Switch off the ignition and let high-speed lan control modules disengage during minimum two minutes before proceeding. Detach the negative Battery Cable while you wipe the ABS Control Module-brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) space free from dust particles. The vehicle needs to be lifted then bpmv bracket-to-crossmember mounting bolts need removal to gain better access to ABS Control Module and its connector. Before beginning disconnect the ABS Control Module connector by releasing the well and removing the electrical brake pressure sensor connector from the abs modulator assembly. The ABS Control Module needs its four retaining bolts removed from the bpmv before the ABS Control Module can be carefully separated from the bpmv. The installation process requires denatured alcohol for cleaning the bpmv sealing surface while the motor connector should be positioned correctly on the ABS Control Module. Apply criss-cross tightening to the four retaining bolts which will secure the ABS Control Module to the bpmv electrical terminals until they reach 5 nm (44 in. Lbs.). Safely install the ABS Control Module and brake fluid pressure sensor electrical connectors after which you must fasten the two bpmv bracket-to-crossmember mounting bolts at 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Removal of the vehicle should be followed by negative Battery Cable restoration and ABS Control Module programming only when installing a new unit. The diagnostic system check - vehicle in vehicle dtc information must be executed as the last step.
