  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2005 Chevrolet Astro?
A: The replacement of an Evaporator core will require the tools which must include a halogen leak detector (J 39400-A). The air cleaner assembly should be removed first then the accumulator and coolant recovery reservoir. Disengage the electrical connectors before taking off the bypass valve bracket attached to the outer case. Secondly detach the Evaporator tube from the accumulator before removing the relay bracket. To remove the Evaporator tube the technician first loosens the nut and proceeds to remove the tube from the Evaporator. Begin by removing the screws from the outer Evaporator case before taking off the outer case from the module. Start by removing screws that divide the Evaporator module before extracting both the inner case together with the Evaporator core. Before installation of a new Evaporator core users should apply pag oil to it before positioning it in place. Begin reassembly by setting the inner case inside the Evaporator module and then tighten the Evaporator case screws to 6 n.m (53 lb in). Attach the outer case to the Evaporator module by securing it with screws while tightening them to 6 n.m (53 lb in). Install a fresh o-ring after which you must connect the Evaporator tube to the Evaporator before securing the Evaporator tube nut to 28 n.m (20 lb ft). Reinstallation of the bypass valve bracket along with the relay bracket should be followed by reattaching electrical connectors before reinstalling the accumulator and coolant recovery reservoir and air cleaner assembly.
