- Q: How to replace the starter motor on 2005 Chevrolet Impala?A: First, turn off the Battery Cable's negative terminal. The Starter motor cannot be serviced and has to be replaced as a whole unit. Lift and house the vehicle, remove the lower air deflector and the torque conposites. Next, do not forget to remove the bat terminal nut of the Starter solenoid and the positive Battery Cable from the Starter motor, then remove the Starter solenoid s terminal nut and the Starter solenoid wire. Unscrew the Starter bolts (1,2) and remover the Starter motor. For installation, line up the Starter motor with the engine and insert the Starter bolts (1,2) finger tight until in place, and the tighten to 43 n.m (32 lb ft). Attach positive Battery Cable and the solenoid bat terminal nut with finger tight and Starter solenoid wire and Starter solenoid s terminal nut with finger tight. Secure the solenoid bat terminal nut to 10 n.m (89 lb in), and the Starter solenoid s terminal nut, to 2.3 n.m (20.5 lb in). Lastly, replace the torque converter covers, lower vehicle deflector, lower the vehicle, and reconnect the negative Battery Cable.
