2005 Chevrolet Malibu Harmonic Balancer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on 2005 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: The replacement process for the crankshaft balancer starts with Drive Belt removal before vehicle lifting and supporting. The right front tire and wheel requires removal while also removing the right engine splash shield. The installation of jack stands on the frame enables you to loosen the left frame bolts while removing the right side bolts to lower the frame right section for crankshaft balancer access. Install the flywheel holder (J 37096) next to the torque converter covers before the crankshaft balancer operation to stop flywheel rotation. First remove the balancer bolt along with its washer from the crankshaft. After that put on the Harmonic Balancer remover (J 41816) to take out the crankshaft balancer. The keyway of the balancer requires gm p/n 12346286 (Canadian P/N 10953472) sealant before installing the crankshaft balancer using the balancer and crank sprocket installer (J 29113). After bolting in the flywheel holder (j 37096) to stop flywheel rotation please remove balancer and crank sprocket installer (J 29113). Insert the crankshaft balancer washer and bolt before tightening it to 70 nm (52 ft. Lbs.) then measure another 70-degree bolt rotation using the angle meter (J 45059). The angle meter (J 45059) should be removed from the flywheel and torque converter covers need to be reinstalled before raising the frame to its original placement and tightening all frame bolts. Conclude the installation process by adding the right engine splash shield and right front tire along with wheel to the vehicle. Lower it down before reinstalling the Drive Belt. A learn procedure for variation in the ckp system must be performed.
