2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: You must lift and fixture the vehicle before starting the intermediate Steering Shaft replacement process. The tire and wheel assembly needs removal before front wheel straightening and Steering Column locking happens to avoid suffering from improper alignment and sir coil assembly damage. Begin installation of the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) at the bottom of the Steering Column before using the intermediate Steering Shaft seal to reach the lower pinch bolt. First remove the power steering gear stub shaft's lower pinch bolt before detaching its intermediate Steering Shaft. Lower the vehicle before removing the left instrument panel insulator. Use the Steering Shaft intermediate seal to access the upper pinch bolt before you detach it to disconnect the intermediate Steering Shaft from the Steering Column. Place the intermediate Steering Shaft into position then tighten the upper pinch bolt to 48 nm (35 ft. Lbs.). After positioning the intermediate Steering Shaft seal on the Steering Column you can raise the vehicle for support to link the intermediate Steering Shaft with the power steering gear stub shaft. The lower pinch bolt must be tightened to 48 nm (35 ft. Lbs.) during installation. Remove the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) before installing the intermediate Steering Shaft seal onto the power steering gear and reattaching the tire and wheel assembly. After lowering the vehicle, install the left instrument panel insulator.
