2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Power Steering Hose on 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: The first step to replace the power steering cooler pipe/hose requires decoupling engine mount struts from the engine while raising and supporting the vehicle. First remove the tire along with wheel assembly before placing a drain pan beneath the vehicle. The sir coil assembly can be harmed if you disconnect the Steering Column or intermediate shaft before placing the front wheels in a straight position and turning the Steering Column to lock. The intermediate Steering Shaft should be detached from the power steering gear stub shaft before attaching it to a utility stand for frame support. When removing the frame bolts from behind the frame keep a safe distance by not letting the frame fall beyond an appropriate level to protect engine parts. First lower the frame with a utility stand before accessing it. Then remove the power steering return hose linking the Power Steering Pump and power steering cooler pipe before separating the power steering return line from the power steering gear with its clamp. Open the power steering cooler pipe retaining clips at first before pulling the power steering cooler pipe free from vehicle access. Secure the new power steering cooler pipe to its position by using the retaining clips. Connect the power steering return hose from the Power Steering Pump to the cooler pipe when you attach the power steering return line to the power steering gear and its clamp. The utility stand helps lift the frame before you install new frame bolts at its rear section. The intermediate Steering Shaft should be reconnected to the power steering gear stub shaft while the tire and wheel assembly gets reinstalled and the drain pan gets removed. The last steps include lowering the vehicle and reinstalling the engine mount struts followed by fluid filling of the power steering reservoir. Then comes system bleeding followed by checking for leaks.
