2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace a Power Steering Hose on a 3.4L Engine for Pressure Hose on 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: The first step to replace the power steering pressure pipe/hose on a 3.4l engine involves placing a drain pan underneath the vehicle. You must disconnect the power steering pressure line from its pump location and the engine-mounted retaining bracket. You can find the pressure line as the bottom section of power steering gear components through the engine compartment space between the rocker arm cover and dash mat front edge. The vehicle needs to be securely positioned then the power steering pressure line should be unclamped from the power steering gear to remove it from the vehicle. After lowering the vehicle start by placing the power steering pressure line inside the vehicle then clamp it to the power steering gear before continuing. Secure the power steering pressure line to the power steering gear by torquing the fitting to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.) and position it on the retaining bracket connecting the engine to the Power Steering Pump where you will torque the fitting to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.) as well. The technician completes the power steering system by adding fluid followed by bleeding the system then performs a leak examination.
