2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Camshaft Position Sensor on 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: The first action for replacing the camshaft position (CMP) sensor is to disconnect the ignition coil wire and Spark Plug Wires from the Distributor by rotating the boot 1/2 turn followed by pulling only on the boot or utilizing a designed tool for this task. To begin the process disconnect the electrical connector of the cmp sensor before removing the Distributor Cap screws and handling the Distributor Cap itself. After removing the rotor screws and rotor you need to position the square slot in the reluctor wheel correctly with the cmp sensor. The process requires removing both cmp screws before extracting the cmp sensor. The new cmp sensor should be inserted into the reluctor wheel slot followed by new cmp screws coated with threadlock compound which need to be tightened to 2.2 n.m (19 lb in). Secure the Distributor Cap first while using new screws which need to be tightened to 2.4 n.m (21 lb in). After that reattach the rotor by tightening its screws to 2 n.m (18 lb in). The last step involves connecting the cmp sensor electrical connection and fastening the Spark Plug Wires along with ignition coil wire to the Distributor.
