2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crankshaft Position Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor on 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: Proper vehicle support and elevation become necessary before starting the Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor replacement process. Begin sensor replacement by dismantling engine shield bolts when required along with removing the engine shield. You begin by separating the CKP sensor electrical connector followed by removing both the CKP sensor bolt and the sensor itself. Before tightening the bolt for the CKP sensor installation make sure the sensor is completely in place to prevent erratic performance and generation of false diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Any reused CKP sensor must receive an entirely new O-ring seal because the initial seal cannot be put back into use. First apply engine oil as lubricant to the O-ring seal before putting in the CKP sensor and its bolt which you must seal using a torque of 9 N.m (80 lb in). After reconnecting the CKP sensor electrical connector you must reinstall the engine shield along with securing the engine shield bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). The CKP system variation learn procedure constitutes the final step of this section.
