2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the lower intake manifold on 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: To replace the lower Intake Manifold start by draining the cooling system and disconnecting the fuel pipes/hoses, distributor, and evaporative emission (EVAP) canister harness from the purge solenoid valve. Next, unclipped the heater hose clamp, open the heater outlet hose clamp, detaching the hose from the Intake Manifold, and the same for the heater inlet hose at the Water Pump. Replace the hoses, disconnect the cruise control cable from throttle body lever and accelerator control cable bracket, and remove the accelerator cable from throttle body lever and accelerator control cable bracket. Pull the electrical connectors off of the air conditioning (A/C) compressor clutch and a/c pressure switch , remove the engine wiring harness clip from the accelerator control cable bracket and the bracket nuts. Unhook the accelerator control cable bracket including the cables from the throttle body and tie it up away from the throttle body. Remove the throttle position (TP) sensor , idle air control (IAC) motor, and control port injector module electrical connectors, as well as the engine wiring harness clip bolt and connectors for the evap canister purge solenoid valve and manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor . Take out the engine wiring harness bracket and ground therefore from the rear of the right cylinder head, take out also the stud that holds the engine wiring harness bracket and move it to the side. Detach the PCV Valve Hose from the valve cover and rocker cover, remove the power Brake Booster Vacuum Hose and re-position the radiator inlet hose clamps prior to pulling off the radiator inlet hose from the Thermostat Housing. Adjust the Water Pump inlet hose clamps into a new position and take off the Water Pump inlet hose. To remove the front Intake Manifold bolt, make sure you remove the Drive Belt, loosen the p/s pump rear bracket nut, take out the front p/s pump bracket nut and bolts and slide it forward to access the bolt. Take out the low bolts and manifold, itself disposing of the gaskets. Clean and check the Intake Manifold-lower where needed. For installation, attach a 4.0 mm (0.157 inch) application of the adhesive gm p/n 12346141 (or Canadian P/N 10953433) or equivalent to the cylinder head side of the Intake Manifold Gasket at each end with the intention to install the gasket while the adhesive is still wet. Apply 5mm (0.197 inch) of adhesive to the front and rear top of the engine block extending it 13mm (0.50 inch) onto each Intake Manifold Gasket, and then install the Intake Manifold. If recycling old fasteners, use threadlock gm p/n 12345382 or similar to threads of Intake Manifold - lower bolts and then install and tighten the bolts with the specified sequence to 3 nm and (27 inch lbs.), 12 nm (106 inch lbs.), and 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.), final. Slide out the p/s pump bracket and hook in the bolts and nut for the p/s pump bracket and tighten them to 41nm; 30ft. Lbf. Replace the Drive Belt, water pump inlet hose, and radiator inlet hose as well as reconnect the power Brake Booster Vacuum Hose and PCV Valve Hose. Locate the position of the engine wiring harness and bracket, fasten the engine wiring harness bracket stud to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.), fixture the evap canister purge solenoid valve with a rear bracket nut of 9 nm (80 inch lbs.), and add the ground nut to 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.). Tighten the engine wiring harness bracket nuts to 12 nm (106 inch lbs), connect the evap canister harness, and the evap canister purge solenoid valve, map sensor, tp sensor, iac motor, and control port injector module electrical connector. Attach the bracket and the cables to the engine wiring harness clip bolt and attach the accelerator control cable bracket with the cables attached to the throttle body and tighten the nuts at 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). Connect the a/c compressor clutchylinder switch if equipped and connect the engine wiring harness clip to the accelerator control cable bracket and attache the accelerator cable to the accelerator control cable bracket and throttle body lever. If available, route the cruise control cable to the accelerator control cable bracket and throttle lever, routing the heater inlet and outlet hoses and connecting them to the Water Pump and Intake Manifold, respectively, and the heater hose clamp. Last of all, it needs to be refueled with the aid of fuel pipes/hoses, distributor and the cooling system followed.
