2005 Chevrolet Uplander Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads (RPO Codes J65, JL9) on 2005 Chevrolet Uplander?
A: Check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level before starting rear Brake Pad replacement for rpo codes j65 and jl9. Check the master cylinder fluid level to determine whether fluid removal is needed; simply maintain the same level if it sits at midpoint yet increase removal when the level exceeds midpoint. Levitate the vehicle before removing the tire along with its wheel assembly. Unclamp the Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) harness from the lower Control Arm and both upper and lower caliper bolts need removal from the caliper. Use heavy mechanic's wire to support the brake caliper before removing it from the bracket while keeping the hydraulic flexible brake hose connected to its bracket without any disconnection. First detach both inboard and outboard pads from the Brake Caliper Bracket before inspecting the guide boot assembly while also cleaning pad hardware surfaces with replacement of clips and piston boot when needed. Insert the spanner-type wrench (Mac® Tools DBC 25 C 2500 MA Disc Brake Caliper Tool Set or equivalent tool) and turn the Brake Caliper Piston clockwise until it reaches the brake caliper bore. Position the indents on the piston face to align with the pin located at the Brake Pad retainer's back then install all pads starting with the Brake Pad retainers into the Brake Caliper Bracket while placing the pad with the metallic wear sensor on the inboard side. Attach the caliper onto the bracket while checking if bracket guide boots remain intact then secure the brake caliper bolts at 34 nm (25 ft. Lbs. Torque). Install the tire and wheel assembly next before lowering the vehicle while re-clamping the wss harness to the lower Control Arm. During engine off position apply the brake pedal to 2/3 of its possible movement distance then slowly release it for multiple times until the brake caliper pistons and pads achieve complete pad-to-rotor contact. Complete the brake master cylinder reservoir while maintaining appropriate fluid level and execute pad and rotor burnishing.
