2006 Chevrolet Uplander Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads (J65, JL9) on 2006 Chevrolet Uplander?
A: Before starting Brake Pad replacement work (J65, JL9), check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. Drain enough fluid when it is above the midway point mark between the two acceptable levels. After lifting the vehicle and placing support stands under it you should take out the tire and wheel elements. Take off the wss harness from the lower Control Arm before removing the two caliper bolts at upper and lower positions. Support the brake caliper with mechanic's wire to protect the hose before you draw the caliper directly off the bracket via single-hand force. Secure the caliper aside without detaching the hydraulic brake hose. Take the inboard and outboard pads from the Brake Caliper Bracket when removing it. Examine the guide boot of the Brake Caliper Bracket plus scrub all Brake Pad hardware connections before studying the Brake Pad retainers and searching for boot problems. Apply clockwise turns on the spanner tool (Mac Tools DBC 25 C 2500 MA Disc Brake Caliper Tool Set or equivalent) to push the brake piston onto its receiver until it reaches its maximum position. Position the piston indents along the Brake Pad back pins before adding the Brake Pad retainers into their bracket places. Position and fix the brake pads with one metal sensor side inboard. Put the caliper over the bracket slot and verify the guide boots have no damage before placing brake caliper bolts and tightening them to 34 nm (25 ft. Lbs.). Put back the wss harness onto the lower Control Arm before putting on the tire wheel and lowering the vehicle. Press the Brake Pedal from rest to around 2/3 of its range while the engine stays off and then decrease the pedal pressure slowly. Hold the Brake Pedal for 15 seconds several times until the pedal feels solid to allow the brake caliper pistons and pads to settle in place properly. Complete the brake reservoir to its right level then gently work the brake pads and rotors to achieve effective stopping power.
