  • Q: How to replace the brake drum on 2005 GMC Sierra 1500?
    A: To change Brake Drum, remove the rear tire and wheel, in rear Brake Drum retainer if necessary. Apply a little penetrating oil around the wheel studs, axle shaft hub and Brake Drum before removing the Brake Drum. If Brake Drum cannot be removed ,remove the rubber plug off the backing plate and put a screwdriver to contact the adjust leaver a little nudge the adjuster lever away from it and with a screwdriver turn the adjuster in an upward direction and it is up seat then remove the Brake Drum. Clean the mating surface between the rear axle flange and Brake Drum with the help of wheel hub resurfacing kit (J42450-A). For the installation measure the Brake Drum using drum to Brake Shoe clearance gage (J22364-01), adjust the rear brake shoes using the same to install the rear Brake Drum then reinstall rear tire and wheel.
