2005 GMC Sierra 1500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front brake pads on the 1500 Series on 2005 GMC Sierra 1500?
A: Begin front Brake Pad replacement by looking at your brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. If it stays between marks, you do not need to drain fluid but you should lower it to mid-point with excess fluid. Put the tire and wheel away before you compress the brake caliper pistons between two big c-clamps which sit over the caliper housing against rearward outboard pad while you tighten until the piston fits back. When you take away the c-clamps unlatch the lower Brake Caliper Bolt while keeping the Brake Pedal unpressed to protect brake components from harm. Move the caliper upwards to pull out brake pads from their bracket position where you need to discard anti-rattle clips and inspect the caliper and bracket. You should put brand new anti-rattle clips on the caliper bracket before installing brake pads. Place the inner pad with one wear indicator and the outer pad without wear indicator onto the pads. Finally return the caliper to its normal position. Secure the lower caliper bolt with 100 nm torque value (74 ft.lbs) and put back the tire and wheel assembly along with the safety stands before lowering the vehicle. Without engine power you need to press gently on the Brake Pedal to two-thirds of its range before releasing it for several times until the Brake Pedal stops sinking to install brake caliper pistons and pads correctly. Complete the filling process by adding the right amount of new brake fluid into the master cylinder when necessary. Also run the brake system to smooth out pad and rotor surfaces.
