GMC Sierra 1500 Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on a 1500 Series without NYS on GMC Sierra 1500?
A: Before starting to replace the brake pads on a 1500 series vehicle without nys check the brake master cylinder reservoir. If the fluid level sits at halfway between low and high marks no extra fluid needs to be removed but if it is above the halfway point bring it down to that level before continuing. Push the tire wheel assembly down first followed by an installation of a large c-clamp that compresses the Brake Caliper Piston against the caliper housing. Continue pushing the piston until it reaches the bore end with the cleam in place. Detach the brake caliper by removing its bolts and placing heavy mechanic's wire under the bracket to support it before disconnecting the hydraulic brake hose. Check both the caliper and caliper bracket by removing brake pads and their holders. To install the piston into caliper bores safely use a c-clamp and place an old Brake Pad or wooden piece on top of the piston to keep it from damaging the boot or piston while pushing through the bore. Use a flat tool to lightly raise the boot next to the piston and let out atmosphere within the boot to keep it lower than the piston surface. Install the Brake Pad retainers onto the caliper bracket while orienting the wear sensor on the leading top edge during forward wheel turning. Place the brake pads afterward. Use new brake caliper bolts to connect the component to the bracket and tighten them to 108 nm (80 ft. Lbs.). Replace the tire and wheel assembly afterward. When the engine is off apply medium brake pressure to around 2/3 of the pedal movement and release it slowly. Repeat this step until you reach a solid brake feel to correctly settle the brake caliper components. After filling the master cylinder with clean brake fluid complete the pedal feel process using the bake caliper bolts at 108nm (80ftlbs).
