    Q:
How to replace the rear brake pads on Chevrolet Avalanche 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the rear brake pads, firstly check on the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level; if the level is in between maximum-full and minimum allowable, no fluid need to be removed, but if above should remove fluid to the midway point than. Lift up and carry the vehicle and take away the tire and the wheel assembly. Check the operation of the calipers and apply a c-clamp to slowly bottom the pistons of the caliper, reposition as needed. Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic's wire separated from its mount to prevent the flexibility of the hydraulic flexible brake hose from being damaged. Takedown the caliper from mounting bracket without removing the hydraulic brake flexible hose and inspect the caliper assembly. Remove brake pads and discard the anti-rattle clips from brake caliper mounting bracket. For installation mount the new anti rattle clips and brake pads on the caliper bracket and replace your caliper. Reattach the tire and wheel assembly, lower the vehicle, slowly with the engine off press down the Brake Pedal to a point of about 2/3 of the travel distance of the Brake Pedal, and then let go slowly. Wait for 15 seconds and do the same process again until you have a firm pedal that seats the brake caliper pistons and pads appropriately. Finally, you may want to fill the master cylinder reservoir up to the correct fluid level with clean brake fluid and burnish the brake pads and rotors as needed.

    Q:
How to replace the rear brake pads on Chevrolet Silverado 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the rear brake pads, first determine how much the fluid level is in the brake master cylinder reservoir. If it is half way between the max and min no need to remove any fluid but if it is above mid remove fluid til it is at midway. Then, take off the tyre and wheel assembly and compress Brake Caliper Piston with a large c-clamp over the top of the caliper housing against the back of the outboard pad, fully pressing down until the pistons are compressed back into caliper bores, remove the c-clamp. Unbolt the brake caliper bolts and remove the brake caliper from Brake Caliper Bracket and suspend it using heavy mechanic's wire keeping the hydraulic brake flexible hose connected. Remove the brake pads and Brake Pad retainers and then examine the caliper and caliper bracket. For installation use a c-clamp to bottom the piston into caliper bore, using old Brake Pad or wooden block to protect the piston and caliper boot. Use a small flat-bladed tool to lift the inner edge of caliper boot to release any trapped air, so that the boot will be below the piston face. Mount the Brake Pad retainers on the caliper bracket with the wear sensor directed at the leading edge of the inner pad when the car travels in the forward direction and then mount the brake pads and the caliper on to the caliper bracket. Replace new brake caliper bolts and tighten them to 108 nm (80 ft. Lbs.), and then replace the tire and wheel assembly. You should do everything with the engine off by gradually applying the brake pedal to around 2/3 of travel distance, releasing it slowly, and repeating the process until a firm pedal is achieved in order to ensure that the caliper pistons and pads are seated to their required dimensions. Lastly, top off the master cylinder reservoir if needed, with clean break fluid, and burnish the pads and the rotors.

    Q:
How to replace the front brake pads on Chevrolet Suburban 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start working on front Brake Pad replacement by removing two-thirds of the fluid from the master cylinder then lifting and stabilizing the vehicle. Uninstall the tire and wheel components. Check the caliper function before taking it off and suspend the caliper onto the bike frame with a heavy wire instead of using the brake hose medalla. Pull out the caliper bolts from their bracket mounting points and take off the bracket from the Steering Knuckle piece. Then remove the brake pads from their mounting position. Check the caliper and mounting bracket while removing hardware clips from their inside ends. Place the clips on the mounting bracket's inner ends first before fitting the brake pads with the inner pad at position 11 containing a wear indicator and the outer pad at positions 2 also marked with wear indicators. Install the caliper mounting bracket on the Steering Knuckle while using threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 or red loctite (TM) #272 on the bolt threads to hold it tightly. Clean the threads thoroughly before endorsing and torquing the bolts to their specified settings. Screw the brake caliper mounting bracket to 175 n.m (129 lb ft) for 15 series and 300 n.m (221 lb ft) for 25 series. Position the new caliper on its place and add the wheel assembly with tire. After removing blocks for safety you can let the vehicle down. Fill the master cylinder with fresh brake fluid until it reaches the correct mark then push and hold the brake pedal firmly for Brake Pad seating. If needed perform brake burnishing.

    Q:
How to replace the rear brake pads (All except 1500 Series W/O NYS) on Chevrolet Silverado 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before replacing the rear brake pads for all except 1500 series w/o nys check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. If it sits between the minimum and maximum points you can start without draining fluid but draining is needed when the fluid level reaches the maximum point. Lift up the vehicle then take off both tire and wheel parts. Assemble heavy mechanic's wire fasteners to support the brake caliper when it has disconnected from its mounting bracket to shield the hydraulic flexible brake hose from injury. Check the brake caliper assembly without detaching the hydraulic brake hose before taking it off from the mount plate. Disc brake pads should be taken out from the mounting bracket with anti-rattle clips going in the trash. After you put new anti-rattle clips on the mounting bracket install the disc brake pads before putting back the brake caliper. Put back the wheel and tire in place then take out the safety stands while lowering the vehicle. When the engine is turned off apply pressure to the brake pedal until it reaches 2/3 of its stretching range then let it go followed by repeating this motion until the brake caliper buttons rest accurately with the pads. Complete the brake fluid tank with fresh fluid before finishing the pad and wheel surface burnishing steps.

    Q:
How to replace the rear brake pads on Chevrolet Suburban 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Check the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir before work. If brake fluid is at midpoint between maximum mark and minimum line, do not drain excess fluid but if the level is above midpoint drain to reach that level. Lift up the vehicle to create position and take off the tire and wheel set. Test the caliper function and press a c-clamp against it so the pistons will move down, readjust the c-clamp until all moving is complete. Secure the brake caliper with heavy mechanic's wire when removing it from its mount to protect the hydraulic flexible brake hose. Check the caliper assembly components without detaching the hydraulic brake hose from its mount. Take out brake pads and dispose of anti-rattle clips from the brake caliper mounting bracket. Place new anti-rattle clips on Brake Caliper Bracket to install, then put brake pads in place by arranging wear indicator for the inner pad-1 and outer pad-2 directly. Put back the brake caliper to its bracket first then add the wheel and tire below and park the car. Press the brake pedal only half-way down with the engine turned off before releasing it slowly. Press the brake pedal every 15 seconds to set the brake caliper pistons until you feel a solid brake pedal response. Complete the brake fluid reservoir with new fluid after placing the brake pads and rotors through the burnishing process.

    Q:
How to replace the rear disc brake pads on a 1500 Series on GMC Sierra 1500 Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the brake pads on 1500 series vehicles start by lifting and supporting the car and taking off the rear wheel and tire. You should use hand tools with an open-end wrench to hold the caliper guide pin straight when you remove its bolt. When servicing brake pads alone you can leave the brake hose connected to the caliper because no hose removal process is necessary. Uncover the guide pin bolt from the brake caliper then turn the caliper upward until it reaches a support position or secured with mechanics wire. When servicing other brake parts note the placement of shims with the old brake pads and replace them with new shims throughout the process. To access the mounting bracket remove brake pads and shims. When replacing brake pads compress the caliper piston gently into the bore using the right tool. Affix new shims to their correct positions on the mounting bracket and Brake Pad set before adding new replacement pads. Reposition the brake caliper onto the mounting bracket without mechanics wire. Use hand tools to fit the new caliper guide pin bolts then position the caliper guide pins straight when tightening each bolt to 108 nm (80 ft. Lbs). Press the Brake Pedal several times while first adding then taking away force until the brake reacts strongly. Replace the tire and wheel after you put clean brake fluid into the brake master cylinder reservoir until it reaches the correct quantity. Finally, burnish the brake pads.
