GMC Sierra 1500 Wheel Speed Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the rear wheel speed sensor ring on a non-hybrid with a GVW of less than 3900 kg (8600 lb) on GMC Sierra 1500?
A: Service 2011 vehicles with low gross vehicle weight requires hoisting the vehicle then taking off the tire and wheel assembly before starting. You should first take out the Wheel Speed Sensor and grab the rear axle housing cover before handling the Axle Shaft. The j-2619-01 and j-45857 tools help you pull out the Axle Shaft seal, bearing, and Wheel Speed Sensor ring from the axle housing. The j-45860 tool and the j-8092 handle are used to install the Wheel Speed Sensor ring through the axle housing until the bottoming point of the tool contacts the tube. Insert the Axle Shaft bearing inside the tube using j-23690 - bearing installer and j-8092 - driver handle, drive it in until the tool hits the tube surface. Place the axle pinion oil seal (J-21128) in the tube using the axle pinion oil seal installer until it reaches the proper flush position. Set back the Axle Shaft and its components including the rear Wheel Speed Sensor before installing tires and wheels. Complete the service by pumping the right differential oil into the rear axle and allowing the car to drop down.
