- Q: How to replace the left camshaft on 2006 Buick LaCrosse?A: In order to replace the left Camshaft, start by taking out the upper Intake Manifold, followed by the lower Intake Manifold, left bank Camshaft cover, Camshaft sensors, Camshaft position actuator solenoid, and Crankshaft balancer. With the Crankshaft rotation socket make sure the Crankshaft is rotated so that the cam shafts is at neutral (low tension) position and the Camshaft flats are lying parallel with the Camshaft cover rail than Camshaft. It is very important to apply an open end wrench at the Camshaft hex not to allow Camshaft/engine rotation and never to get the Camshaft position actuator bolt loose at this point. Instead, loosen it. Next, fully engage the Timing Chain retention tool (EN 46108) into Timing Chain to retain and firmly tighten the en 46108 nuts. Mark the Timing Chain and corresponding places on the Camshaft position actuators for correct assembly. Next, following the removal of the Camshaft position actuator bolt, remove the camshafts. For installation, align the marks on the Camshaft position actuator and the Timing Chain, but don't tighten the Camshaft position actuator bolt. Position the camshafts onto the cylinder head, as well as attach the Camshaft actuators, and then the camshafts and Camshaft bearing caps. Take off Timing Chain retention tool (EN 46108), and another time use an open-end wrench at hex on Camshaft to prevent rotation to install the Camshaft position actuators and tighten them. Lastly, install the intake Camshaft position actuator solenoid, Camshaft sensors, crankshaft balancer, Camshaft cover and finally the upper Intake Manifold with lower Intake Manifold.
