First step is to take off the Rack and Pinion Boot. Place the gear into a vise with caution because touching the steering gear preload adjustment can lead to equipment breakdown before moving the inner Tie Rod. Install the shock dampener back onto the rack while sliding it inside the inner Tie Rod housing. Start by positioning a pipe wrench at the steering gear valve end which faces the inner Tie Rod housing and another wrench on the rack near the inner Tie Rod housing. A wrench applied to the flats of the inner Tie Rod housing must rotate it counterclockwise until separation from the rack . The same procedure must be followed for the inner Tie Rod housing alongside the inner Tie Rod. After cleaning both inner Tie Rod threads and rack threads apply loctite® 262 or equivalent as needed. Utilize a pipe wrench along with an inner Tie Rod wrench (J 34028) to torque the inner Tie Rod to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.) during attachment onto the rack. Then repeat the same process on the inner Tie Rod while finishing the assembly with the required staking. Use a 0.25 mm gauge to check the thrust stakes before sliding the shock dampener fully onto the inner tie rod housing.
