2006 Buick Lucerne Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front wheel bearing and hub on 2006 Buick Lucerne?
A: The first step to replace the front Wheel Bearing and hub requires lifting and supporting the vehicle. Before replacing the tire, clean the drive axle threads with any remaining dirt. You should first place a drift punch or a screwdriver against the caliper and rotor in order to stop rotor movement. After that you can remove the drive axle nut then the brake rotor. Locate and disconnect the abs front wheel speed sensor connector before unclipping it from its dust shield position. The retaining bolts securing the wheel bearings to the hub should be removed but the hub and bearing must stay as one assembly for replacement. Follow by extracting the Steering Knuckle-mounted Wheel Bearing/hub assembly as well as the accompanying dust shield. The front hub spindle remover (J 28733-B) helps workers disconnect components from the drive axle. Scrape away rust and foreign matter from the knuckle mounting face as well as the bore and chamber to achieve proper bearing installation in the knuckle. During hub assembly installation remove the plastic protective cover while avoiding contact with the abs sensor wire in the knuckle or hub. Safely mount the dust shield while protecting the bearing outside lip seal and both the hub and bearing bolts throughout the process. Lubricate the Steering Knuckle bore with a thin coating of grease before installing the Wheel Bearing and dust shield unit to the knuckle. Apply 95 nm (70 ft. Lbs.) of torque when tightening the Wheel Bearing/hub retaining bolts. Add the new drive axle nut to draw the Wheel Bearing/hub onto the axle while connecting and mounting the abs front wheel speed sensor connector to the dust shield. The drive axle nut needs to be tightened to 160 nm before unhitching. To avoid rotor rotation during installation use a drift punch or screwdriver between the caliper and rotor. Complete the process by mounting the tire and wheel before lowering the vehicle.
