2006 Buick Rainier Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2006 Buick Rainier?
A: To service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder, one should secure the mounting flange to a bench vise with an easy approach to the rear of the primary Piston. Release the master cylinder reservoir cap and diaphragm and fit appropriate fittings on the master cylinder ports compatible with the needed flare seat and allow for hose attachment. Connect transparent hoses to these fittings and run them into the master cylinder reservoir. Fill the reservoir up to at least the halfway level with delco supreme ii®® gm p/n 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667) or equivalent dot-3 brake fluid from a clean, sealed container with the ends of the hoses fully submerged in the fluid. Depress and release a few times with a round-ended smooth tool the primary Piston to around 25 mm (1 inch) deep, noting the fluid outflow from the ports. As air is bled from the primary and secondary pistons, the effort to press the primary Piston is increased and also the travel to it is reduced. Repeat this procedure until free flow of fluids occurs from the ports without any air bubbles. Then remove the transparent hoses from the reservoir and your master cylinder reservoir cap and diaphragm are back in place, you can then take the fittings and hoses off of the master cylinder, wrapping the master cylinder in a clean shop cloth to prevent any spills before taking it out of the vise.
