2006 Buick Rainier Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front brake pads on 2006 Buick Rainier?
A: Before replacing the front brake pads check the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir. If the fluid sits between the minimum allowed mark and maximum capacity line you should not remove fluid. To lower the fluid level above minimum use a suitable tool to vent brake fluid until the level reaches midway between the lines. Place the vehicle on jack stands and take off its wheel assembly consisting of tire and wheel. Use a large c-clamp on top of the brake caliper housing against the rotor backing plate to push brake pistons inward until you can put the brake caliper off the rotor surface before taking away the c-clamp. Loosen the guide pin bolt at the bottom then move the brake caliper upwards until it reaches its limit. You must first take out both brake pads before throwing away their mounting clips at the caliper bracket. Wipe away all foreign material from the brake caliper using denatured alcohol. During new Brake Pad installation use fresh Brake Pad retaining clips since brake caliper mounting bracket requires accurate clips to maintain safe brake performance. Put the inboard Brake Pad in first and follow it with the outboard Brake Pad while making sure not to overstretch spreader springs. Put the brake caliper open at the bottom then bolt the lower guide pin using 64 nm (47 ft. Lbs.) torque. Set the wheel back in position then lower the vehicle and restore brake fluid to the master cylinder. Press the brake pedal gently yet strongly to make the brake pads seat properly while blending the new pads.
