Cannulate only the hinge base but stop before piercing the mating surface and eliminate the hinge tab first if necessary during drilling. Drill 3 mm (1/8 in.) pilot holes at each punch point which will guide the drilling of 19 mm (3/4 in.) rotabroach hole saw openings or equivalent through the hinge base. Sever the hinge from its mating surface with a chisel tool and remove the hinge part. There should be no gaps between the service hinge and mating surface so clean the mating surface after drilling. Position the service hinge inside scribe marks of the door and use it to mark each hole location based on the service hinge. The first step involves drilling 3 mm (1/8 in.) pilot holes at each marked spot before you drill 13 mm (1/2 in.) holes where the pilot holes exist. All bare-metal surfaces require cleaning preparation followed by anti-corrosion primer application before proper alignment of the hinge with backing plate to holes in the door.
