Upper Hinge, Rear Driver Side

Caring for the rear door hinge requires you to take off all relevant parts before you cut away the sealer from around the hinge and mark its position. The 100 grit sandpaper should be used manually to sand the existing hinge until the four weld positions become visible. Each weld location needs to be marked by a center punch. Drill the hinge base while avoiding the mating surface penetration by removing the hinge tab as needed. Drill a 3 mm (1/8 in.) pilot hole at every punch mark position and then employ this guide to complete the 19 mm (3/4 in.) rotabroach hole saw or equivalent cut through the hinge base. Remove the hinge by applying a chisel before taking it away from the mating surface. Perfection of the mating surface removes any gaps to create a proper installation fit for the service hinge. When installing the service hinge position it into the scribe marks on the door and make hole placement marks according to the service hinge. First drill 3 mm (1/8 in.) pilot holes at each marked spot before extending the holes to 13 mm (1/2 in.) at every mark position. The installer must prepare all bare-metal areas on the door by applying anti-corrosion primer after aligning the hinge component with its designated holes in the door surface. The technician should align the hinge then apply hand torque pressure to all four bolts before tightening them to 25 N.m (18 ft.lb). After cleaning and preparing exposed metal areas, apply thick caulk to surround the service hinge before finishing the paint when ready and correctly installing and placing all adjacent parts.

You must start the rear door hinge door side replacement process by opening the rear door and removing the body-meeting bolt from the rear door check link. Start the procedure by removing the wiring harness grommet from the body then disconnect the door wiring harness connectors. Put away the bolts securing the hinge keeper straps and assist with lifting the rear door off its body side hinges before setting it down on a surface which should be both clean and protected. Unfasten the bolts that maintain door side hinge to door connection before eliminating the hinges from the door. Position the door side rear door hinge to the door and tighten bolts that secure the door side door hinge to the door at 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Lifting support should be present for installing the bolts that keep the rear door hinge keeper straps in place while tightening those bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Reattach the rear door wiring harness connectors to the embedded connectors on the body before installing the rear door wiring harness grommet into its correct position. The last step involves installing and tightening to 25 N.m (18 lb ft) the bolt that holds the rear door check link to the body before conducting an inspection of door operation and alignment.

At each punch location, create a 3 mm (1/8 in.) pilot hole, then use this as a guide to drill through the hinge base with a 19 mm (3/4 in.) rotabroach hole saw or equivalent.

Remove the hinge tab.

Align the hinge and the backing plate with the holes in the door, hand tighten all four supplied bolts, and then align the hinge.

Clean and prepare all bare-metal surfaces, applying an anti-corrosion primer.

Drill a 3 mm (1/8 in) pilot hole at each marked location.

Position the body side front door hinge to the alignment marks, then install the bolts retaining the body side door hinge to the body, tightening them to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).

Hand tighten all four supplied bolts and align the hinge before torquing all bolts.
