The procedure to replace a front door hinge begins by removing every linked element then erasing the seal that surrounds the hinge before notating its position. Use 100-grit sandpaper by hand on the existing hinge until you find the four weld points before center-punching each weld along with marking their positions for efficient drilling removal. Drill holes through the hinge base at its center locations but avoid extending beyond the mating surface. Each punch location requires a 3-mm (1/8-in) pilot hole before using this mark to guide the drilling process through the hinge base with a 19-mm (3/4-in) rotabroach hole saw or equivalent . The chisel tool can separate the hinge from its mating surface when necessary before removing the hinge. The welding remnants should be removed completely to achieve exact alignment of the service hinge with the mating surface. First position the service hinge inside the hinge pillar scribe marks then mark each hole location before drilling 3-mm (1/8-in) pilot holes which will serve as a guide to create 13-mm (1/2-in) holes at all marked locations. All exposed bare-metal areas must go through a preparation process before users apply corrosion-resistance primer after which they need to adhere to GM 4901M-2001 GM Approved Refinish Materials for paint system combinations. Pass the feed wire through the hinge and body pillar and backing plate respectively then crimp the wire behind the backing plate. Following the backing plate insertion into the inner structure pull the feed wire while continuing to feed the backing plate into position then position the hinge to be hand-tightened with the two attaching bolts. Secure the holes by tightening the two bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft) after positioning the hinge at its original position. All accessible metal surfaces require cleaning followed by preparation then application of full-bodied caulk by the service hinge region along with refinishing as needed before mounting all necessary panels and components correctly.

A 13 mm (1/2 in.) hole.

Position the service hinge within the scribe marks on the door and mark each hole location according to the service hinge.

Torque all four bolts to 25 N.m (18 ft.lb), clean and prepare all bare-metal surfaces again, apply a full-bodied caulk around the service hinge, refinish as necessary, and finally, reinstall and align all related panels and components.

Hand tighten all four supplied bolts and align the hinge before tightening the bolts to 25 N.m (18 ft lb).

Take off the sealer surrounding the hinge and scribe its location.

Remove the bolts retaining the door side hinges to the door and take the hinges off.

Install the bolt retaining the front door check link to the body, tightening it to 25 N.m (18.4 lb ft), and inspect the door for proper operation and alignment.

Drill through the hinge base only at each punch location to create a 3 mm (1/8 in) pilot hole.
