How to replace the Exhaust Heat Shield on the left side (LP1, LY7) on 2006 Cadillac CTS?

The replacement of the left-side (LP1, LY7) exhaust manifold heat shield starts with removing the intermediate Steering Shaft. First raise and support the vehicle after you remove the upper bolts from the exhaust manifold heat shield. The removal of the lower bolt from the heat shield allows enough clearance for shield extraction by disconnecting the center intermediate shaft from the lower intermediate shaft. The upper insulator attached to the oil level indicator tube should be detached prior to removing the lower insulator attached to both the oil level indicator and the exhaust gasket. The procedure starts with insulator attachment to the oil level indicator and exhaust gasket before progressing to attaching the upper insulator to the oil level indicator tube if necessary. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield while keeping the lower bolt free from torque so far. Proceed with lowering the vehicle before you install the upper bolts then tighten them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). When you raise the vehicle for the second time you should apply the same force to the lower bolt. The center intermediate shaft should be reinstalled to the lower intermediate shaft before lowering the vehicle.
