  A: First, start by unbolting the fuel injector sight shield, next drain the cooling system before working with the ECT sensor. Remove the engine harness electrical connector from the ECT sensor and then remove the sensor. Likewise, when installing the new ECT sensor, use the following thread sealant GM P/N 12346004 (10853480) Canadian or equivalent and then install the sensor and leave it tightened to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Reconnect the engine harness electrical connector to the ECT sensor, refill the cooling system and lastly, refit the fuel injector sight shield. When dealing with the coolant sensor, protect it against physical damage, as its operation influences the operation of the fuel control system, and that the parts for replacement are the correct part number for the application requiring the specified torque for replacement that is unrelated to the damage.
