Drill a 10 mm (0.4 inch) indentation at the tube bottom starting from its center through centerpunching. Place the shock absorber in the vise with the shock absorber rod extending naturally. A hole must be drilled at the centerpunch location through which gas and oil mixtures can escape using a drill bit with 5 mm (3/16 inch) diameter while you wrap up the spillage with shop towels. Use a centerpunch to mark a second hole position in the middle region of the tube. You will drill this dent with a 5 mm (3/16 inch) drill bit to complete the oil drainage. Did you know that removing the shock absorber from the vise while orientating it above the drain pan with holes facing downward in order to push and pull the rod through the tube will empty all the fluid from the absorber.
