• Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on 2006 Cadillac SRX?

  A: To remove the Steering Knuckle, raise and support the vehicle first, then remove the tire and the wheel, and also the rear brake rotor. Next, the wheel driveshaft nut needs to be removed and thrown out after which the antilock brake system (ABS) sensor harness connector and the abs sensor harness connector need to be removed from the backing plate. Tap out the Parking Brake Cable from the knuckle and remove the Parking Brake Cable from the parking brake lever. Go ahead and remove the upper Ball Joint mounting nut and disconnect the ball stud from the knuckle using the Ball Joint remover (J43631). Support the lower Control Arm using an appropriate jack, and remove the bolt of lower shock, the bolt and nut for Trailing Arm to knuckle and the bolt for lower Control Arm to knuckle as well as adjusting link to knuckle. Replace the axle remover (J 45859, or equivalent to wheel bearing/hub) and use the Wheel Hub remover if needed, and fully separate the wheel bearing/hub from the drive axle. Remove the wheel bearing/hub bolts and the knuckle, then using the axle remover (J 45859) or equivalent, disengage the wheel drive shaft from the wheel bearing/hub. Then, take off the knuckle and backing plate of the wheel bearing/hub. To install, install the knuckle and backing plate to the wheel bearing/hub and then install the wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts applying 125 nm (92 ft. Lbs.) torque to it. Mount the knuckle onto the vehicle with all fasteners being loose then tightened. Tighten the adjustment link to knuckle bolt is to 160 nm (118 ft. Lbs.) followed by Trailing Arm to knuckle bolt to 170 nm (125 ft. Lbs.) followed by the lower shock mounting bolt 150 nm ( 111 ft. Lbs.). Next, install the lower Control Arm to the knuckle mounting bolt and connect the upper Ball Joint to the knuckle in addition to installing the upper jordian mounting nut. Replace the Parking Brake Cable bracket on the knuckle, the jack off, and the abs sensor electrical connector to the backing plate and the abs sensor electrical connector. Visually inspect the wheel drive shaft nut, replace it, and set it to 160 nm (118 ft. Lbs.), and install the brake rotor, tire and wheel, and lower the vehicle.
