• Q: How to replace the Transmission Oil Cooler in the 6L80-E automatic transmission on 2006 Cadillac STS?

  A: Before replacing the engine oil and transmission fluid cooler of the 6l80-e automatic transmission start by removing the A/C Condenser mounting bolts then moving the condenser aside to reach the oil cooler components. Use the cooler quick connect tool (J 41623-B) to remove the Transmission Oil Cooler (TOC) lines connected to the Transmission Oil Cooler before disconnecting those lines from their retaining clip. Following the disconnect of engine cooler (EOC) lines with the 1/2 inch quick connect release tool (DT-47731) users must remove eoc lines from the eoc retaining clips. Unscrew the cooler mounting bolts followed by removing the cooler from its position. The installation sequence begins by bolting and torquing the cooler mounting bolts to 5 nm tension (44 in lbs) torque. Attach eoc lines to the cooler before fixing them onto eoc retaining clips while connecting toc lines to the Transmission Oil Cooler and its line to toc retainer clip. Reinstall the condenser after completing repositioning steps.
