2006 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) at Position 1 on 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The first step to replace the heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) at position 1 involves removing the exhaust manifold heat shield studs as well as the heat shield and cpa retainer (regular production option MN5 only). The removal of connector position assurance (CPA) retainer becomes necessary when the vehicle includes regular production option (RPO) mn5. First unplug the engine harness electrical connector which serves the ho2s then detach its connector clip located at the Thermostat Housing. Vehicle owners must uninstall the cp retainer when they possess rpo m86 before they can disconnect the hose harness from the ho2s then detach the ho2s connector from the coolant housing. For removal of the ho2s use the Oxygen Sensor wrench (J 39194-C). Installation should begin only when the ho2s threads receive anti-seize application using saturn p/n 21485279 or a similar product. Use the Oxygen Sensor wrench (J 39194-C) to install the ho2s then tighten it to 42 n.m (31 lb ft). The installation requires users with rpo m86 to attach the engine harness electrical connector to the ho2s and insert the cpa retainer followed by connecting the ho2s connector clip to the Thermostat Housing. The installation of the cpa retainer requires an engine harness electrical connector connection to the ho2s followed by retainer and ho2s connector clip attachment to the Thermostat Housing for vehicles with rpo mn5. Reinstall the exhaust manifold heat shield together with its studs while tightening them to 22 n.m (16 lb ft).
